Home Launch a business Set up

The launch, step 1 of 7

Set up the entity. Typed once, used everywhere.

ABN, business name or company, and the GST line, each linked to the official register. The entity sheet is written with you at the brief so every later form, insurer and licence application copies the same details. The registering stays yours, and it is free where the government makes it free.

Why set-up trips people up. It is the retyping.

Three things that go wrong before the business has a customer.

Four portals want the same details. In four formats.

The ABR, ASIC, the insurer and the council each ask for the legal name, the structure, the address and the start date, and each one has its own form for it. One typo on the first form follows the business for years.

In practice The entity sheet exists so the details are typed once and copied, never retyped.

The trading name was never registered. The invoice went out anyway.

Trading under anything other than your own first name and surname means an ASIC business name. It is one of the cheapest steps on the list and one of the most skipped, and it surfaces when a client's accounts team checks the name on the invoice.

In practice The plan puts the name question before the logo question.

Turnover passed $75,000 in March. Nobody was watching the line.

GST registration is compulsory at $75,000 of turnover a year, with 21 days from the moment you know you will pass it. Turnover means sales, not profit, which is the part that catches people.

In practice The GST line on the platform is a number and a date, not tax advice. Your accountant owns the call.

How it runs.

  1. 01

    Pick the structure

Sole trader or company, from the wizard's second question. A company gets an ACN and the ABN sits on it; whether a company fits is your accountant's call, not ours.

    In the plan

  2. 02

    Register, in order

ABN first, then the business name or the company, then the GST line. Each step links to the official register and says what it costs, which is nothing for the ABN.

    Your side, free

  3. 03

    Write the entity sheet

Legal name, structure, ABN, business name, address and business email, written once at the brief. It is the sheet every later form, insurer and licence application copies from.

    At the brief, one hour

What it covers.

What it sets up

The identity of the business, on the public record.

  • An ABN, free from the ABR
  • A business name or a company
  • The GST line, with the date
  • Business email on your domain

What it keeps straight

One version of every detail, before anyone else asks for it.

  • One legal name, one spelling
  • One address on every form
  • Start date and renewal dates
  • Who owns what, in your name

What you end up with

A sheet to copy from, and a plan that moves on.

  • The entity sheet
  • An .au domain you qualify for
  • Logins in your name
  • A plan ready for permits

What every build ships with. Measured, not promised.

In the box on Starter, Pro and Premium alike. None of it is an extra and none of it is a guess.

Each panel describes how we build, not an outcome we guarantee.

Before you ask.

Do you register the ABN for me?

No. Charging to lodge an ABN or a company is a registered agent's job, and pretending otherwise is reselling a free government form. The plan links you to the ABR and ASIC and explains each step; the registering stays yours.

Sole trader or company?

That is your accountant's call, and the plan says so. What we do is show both paths with the official links and make sure whichever you pick is written once on the entity sheet.

What is the entity sheet?

One page with the legal name, structure, ABN, business name, address and business email, written with you at the brief. Every later form, from the insurer to the council, copies from it, so the details never drift.

When do I have to register for GST?

When GST turnover reaches $75,000 a year, and within 21 days of knowing you will pass it. Turnover is sales, not profit. We note the line in the plan; your accountant handles the registration.

Do you only work on the Gold Coast?

No. We are based on the Gold Coast and work with brands Australia-wide. Calls, reviews and handover all run remotely.
